THE STORY:
December 25, 1914, the "Great War" came to a spontaneous halt along the Western Front in an event known as the Christmas Truce.
"We are having the most extraordinary Christmas Day imaginable. A sort of unarranged and quite unauthorized but perfectly understood and scrupulously observed truce exists between us and our friends in front…The thing started last night – a bitter cold night, with white frost – when the Germans started shouting 'Merry Christmas, Englishmen' to us. Of course our fellows shouted back and presently large numbers of both sides had left their trenches, unarmed, and met in 'no man's land' between the lines. Here the agreement – all on their own – came to be made that we should not fire at each other until after midnight tonight. The men were all fraternizing in the middle, swapping cigarettes and lies (a soldier's word for 'stories') in the utmost good fellowship.”
Captain Robert Patrick Miles, December 25, 1914
It’s easy to get caught up in disagreements. But we hope this beer helps you to pause, meet in the middle, and recognize that we have more in common with each other than we realize.
